Ind AS and IFRS Reporting for Telangana Companies: GCCs, Pharma Groups and Listed Entities

How Ind AS and IFRS reporting play out for Hyderabad's global capability centres, pharma and life sciences groups, and listed companies and their subsidiaries.

Telangana's corporate base makes Ind AS and IFRS reporting more common than in many states. Hyderabad hosts a large number of global capability centres owned by foreign groups, a deep pharma and life sciences sector with listed parents and many subsidiaries, and a growing number of listed companies. This guide looks at how Ind AS and IFRS reporting typically apply to them.

Global Capability Centres

Most of Hyderabad's global capability centres are Indian subsidiaries of foreign companies, often set up as private companies providing services to the parent. Typically:

  • Their statutory accounts follow Indian standards, and are filed with ROC Hyderabad.
  • Whether that's Ind AS or the older Accounting Standards depends on net worth and Indian group relationships — a foreign IFRS parent alone doesn't require Ind AS.
  • They prepare IFRS or US GAAP reporting packs for the parent, often monthly.
  • Cost-plus service arrangements mean transfer pricing and intercompany recharges are central to both sets of figures.

Pharma and Life Sciences Groups

Many Telangana pharma companies are part of listed Indian groups, which brings their subsidiaries, joint ventures and associates into Ind AS. Areas that often need particular attention include:

  • Revenue from licensing, milestones and contract manufacturing arrangements.
  • Research and development costs, and when development costs can be capitalised.
  • Inventory, including valuation and provisions for expiring stock.
  • Business combinations and intangible assets from acquisitions.

Listed Companies and Their Subsidiaries

A listed Telangana company follows Ind AS, and so do its subsidiaries, associates and joint ventures. When a smaller company becomes part of such a group — through an acquisition or investment — it has to move to Ind AS from the relevant year, with comparatives restated. Planning this at the time of the deal avoids a scramble at year end.

Filing With ROC Hyderabad

Ind AS financial statements are filed with ROC Hyderabad in AOC-4, and consolidated statements in AOC-4 CFS, using the Ind AS formats in Schedule III. The filing process itself is the same as for other companies.

A Checklist for Telangana Companies

  1. Check each year whether Ind AS applies, including through group relationships.
  2. For foreign-owned companies, agree the parent's reporting pack requirements and timetable.
  3. Keep a standing reconciliation between statutory and group figures.
  4. Plan Ind AS transition early after an acquisition or investment.
  5. Use the Ind AS formats when filing with ROC Hyderabad.
